Dublin time-lapse video by Richard Twomey
Irish photographer Richard Twomey has created this stunning time-lapse video taken between March and April of this year, beautifully incorporating scenes across Dublin, including Dublin City Centre, Dublin Airport and the docklands.
Twomey used his Canon 5D along with a 50mm lens, a 24-105mm lens and a very sturdy tripod to record and beautifully compose all shots. The images were then later processed and “stitched together” to create this time-lapse video.
Update [Thursday May 12, 2011 at 15:58]: We contacted time-lapse video creator Richard Twomey who was only too happy to answer a few questions that we posed to him.
Why did you decide to create this time-lapse video?
I wanted to challenge myself. I wanted to do something different. Something about the time-lapse technique really fascinates me. The effect is something you cannot observe in real life and this appeals to me.What were the biggest challenges involved?
The biggest challenge was boredom! Standing around the streets of Dublin next to a camera that you cannot touch for fear of ruining the shot is tedious. Luckily, I never had any hassle while out shooting and met some really interesting characters. There are also quite a few shots that didn’t make it into the final edit, and some nights that I had to abandon completely due to bad weather.Has the positive reaction to the video surprised you at all?
The response has totally shocked me and I’m overwhelmed by the positive reaction. I had hoped my friends and some other photographers might enjoy it, I never expected it to get 20,000 views in 36 hours!Have you any other future time-lapse projects planned?
I do plan on shooting another video soon but I haven’t decided on the subject just yet. A second version of the Dublin video is a strong possibility.
